Dr Hultquist develops computational approaches to integrate and validate data on physical and human systems for decision making during disasters. A core aspect of her research is the evaluation of citizen-generated data to improve environmental monitoring of hazards at local scales. She serves as co-chair of the CODATA Citizen-Generated Data for the SDGs task group of the International Science Council working with the United Nations Statistics Division (UNSD) on policy and the American Geophysical Union (AGU) Natural Hazards section secretary. She is also on the Steering Committee for the Genomic Observatories Metadatabase and the Group on Earth Observations Biodiversity Observation Network Genetic Composition Working Group, the Scientific Committee for the Marine Biodiversity Observing Network, and contributes to the development of the Aotearoa Genomic Data Repository. In these roles, Libby advocates for the retention of contextual metadata, enabling re-use toward biodiversity and conservation objectives, and maintaining Indigenous provenance to support Indigenous Data Sovereignty.
